# Dash vs ChatGPT: which one fits student life?

> Dash and ChatGPT do different jobs. Dash lives in your texts, knows your courses and campus, texts you before deadlines and does things for you after you say yes; ChatGPT is an app you open for long, open-ended chats, writing and brainstorming. Dash is best for staying on top of your semester and getting errands done, and ChatGPT is best when you want to sit down and talk something through at length.

## Example

- **Dash:** morning! today: ECON 101 problem set due 5pm
- **Student:** can you book me a library room 1 to 3
- **Dash:** study room 4B at the main library is open 1 to 3. want me to book it?
- **Student:** yes
- **Dash:** booked. confirmation is in your email. want a quick 5-question warm-up on elasticity before you start?

## What's the real difference between Dash and ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a place you go. You open the app, type a question, and it answers. It's built for open-ended conversation, writing and brainstorming.

Dash comes to you. It sits in your texts, already knows your courses, deadlines and school, and texts first when something matters. Both use AI models; the difference is what they're set up to do.

## When should I use Dash instead of ChatGPT?

- You want every deadline saved and a text before each one, without opening an app.
- You have a question about your own school: office hours, add/drop, the registrar.
- You want something done: a study room booked, an email sent, food ordered, a business called. Dash shows exactly what it will do and waits for your yes.
- You want study help tied to your real exam dates.

## When is ChatGPT the better pick?

When you want a long back-and-forth, help drafting writing that isn't graded, images, or a chat on a laptop. Dash keeps things short and never writes, answers or submits graded work. You can use both.
