# What is a midterm?

> A midterm is an exam held partway through a term, usually covering the material taught up to that point. It's often worth a big share of the final grade, commonly 20 to 35 percent.

## How do midterms work?

Despite the name, many courses have two midterms, or they fall anywhere from week 5 to week 10. Some are in class, some in the evening, and some online.

The format, weight and date are in your syllabus. Details vary by course and school.

## How Dash helps with midterms

Dash saves each midterm's date and weight and texts you before it. Ask for a study plan and it spreads review across the days you have, then quizzes you with practice questions and flashcards built from your course topics.

## Questions

### How long should I study for a midterm?

Start about a week out with short daily sessions rather than one long night. Spaced review sticks better than cramming.

### What if I miss a midterm?

Contact your professor right away. Most schools need documentation for a makeup or a reweighted final, and policies are in the syllabus.

### Will Dash do my take-home midterm?

No. Dash never writes, answers or submits graded work. It explains, quizzes and plans.
