# What is the Pomodoro technique?

> The Pomodoro technique is a time management method where you work in focused 25-minute blocks, called pomodoros, separated by 5-minute breaks, with a longer break after every four. It was developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s.

## How does the Pomodoro technique work?

1. **Pick one task.** Choose a single, specific thing, like "problems 1 to 5" instead of "study chem".
2. **Work for 25 minutes.** Set a timer and do only that task. Note distractions and come back to them later.
3. **Take a break.** Rest 5 minutes, then start again. After four rounds, take 15 to 30 minutes.

## Tips for studying with Pomodoro

- Put your phone out of reach, or on focus mode, during each block
- Adjust the length: 50/10 works better for some people
- Use breaks to move or get water, not to scroll
- Plan the day's pomodoros around what's due first
