Privacy Policy
Last updated October 20, 2026 · Version 2026-10-20.1
In short
- We collect what you tell Dash and what you connect, and use it to help you with school.
- We don't sell your information, we don't show you ads, and we don't use your information to train AI models.
- Dash securely stores the passwords you sign in with, so it can stay signed in for you, and never sees them: you type them on a secure sign-in page, and they're stored encrypted by our sign-in provider. You can see and remove saved sign-ins anytime.
- Your information is stored and processed in the United States and other countries by the companies that help us run Dash.
- You can see what Dash knows, close your account or ask us to erase everything. Text "settings" to Dash, or email privacy@textdash.ai.
1. Who we are
This policy explains how Dash Inc., a Delaware corporation ("Dash", "we", "us"), collects, uses and shares personal information when you use Dash: texting it, the pages it makes, your account page and textdash.com (the "Service"). It's part of our Terms of Service. Dash is for people 18 and older.
2. What we collect
What you give us
- Your phone number, which is your account.
- Your messages to Dash and the photos and files you send, such as a syllabus.
- About you, as you tell Dash: your name, school, year and program, your courses and deadlines, your timezone and how you like Dash to text you, and things you mention that help Dash help you (for example your job's schedule or a goal). Dash remembers these as notes you can see on your account page.
- Waitlist details: if you join our waitlist, your first name, school and year, and who invited you (if you came through a friend's link).
- Friend invitations: the mobile app can create your personal invite link and record which Dash account joined through it. Choosing a contact to invite opens your phone's message composer for you to review and send. Dash does not send invitations automatically, and choosing someone to invite does not enable contact sync.
What you connect
- School sites (your learning management system, student portal or another school site like the library's booking system). If you sign in through Dash's secure sign-in page, the session is saved in a private browser profile so Dash can read pages for you later, like deadlines, grades and announcements, and carry out tasks you approve there (like a room booking). You type your password yourself on that page. Dash securely stores it (never sees it): it's kept encrypted by our sign-in provider and used only to sign you back in to that site, and nobody at Dash and no AI model can read it. Text "settings" to see which sign-ins are saved and remove any of them; removing one signs you out and deletes its saved password, and closing your account deletes them all.
- Public websites Dash checks for you (for example a delivery site or a transit planner) are opened in a separate browser that holds none of your sign-ins; nothing it picks up there is kept. If a site needs a detail from you to answer (like a delivery address), Dash asks you and remembers it as a note you can see and delete on your account page.
- Your calendar feed, if you give Dash its link. The link is stored encrypted.
- Plans you mention in chat (like a dentist appointment or a trip), so Dash can plan around them. You can ask Dash to change or remove one anytime.
- Email and calendar accounts (Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook), if you connect them. Dash reads your email to find school-related messages (like a deadline change from a prof). For each email it keeps only what it needs: the message's ID and time, and any deadlines or notices it found. For your calendar, Dash keeps a copy of your events for the next three weeks (title, time and place), refreshed every couple of hours, so it can plan around your day, and it adds events you ask for. The copy is deleted when you disconnect your calendar or close your account.
- Optional contact matching: if you separately choose to sync contacts in the mobile app, Dash shows how many usable phone numbers are ready before you upload them. Only phone numbers from contacts you allow are uploaded, up to 2,000 per sync; contact names, email addresses and photos are not uploaded. Our servers convert the numbers into keyed hashes (protected matching codes) and keep those codes linked to your account, rather than storing the raw address-book numbers. We use them to match your contacts with existing Dash accounts or with people who join later, including without an invitation. This is a manual sync, refreshed only when you choose. It does not send messages, notify your contacts or enable communication between Dash accounts. Any future Dash-to-Dash communication feature will have its own controls and permissions.
What's created when you use Dash
- Calls Dash makes for you: who it called, what it asked, a transcript and a summary of what happened. Dash tells the person it's an AI calling on your behalf.
- Tasks Dash carries out on your school sites: which site, what you asked for, the exact details you approved (for example the room, date and time of a booking, or what you ordered and its total), your yes, and what the site confirmed. This is the record of what was done in your name. Dash doesn't see or keep your card number: a purchase uses the payment method you saved on that site.
- Pages Dash makes for you, like practice quizzes, and how you use them (for example your quiz answers).
- Usage information: when you text, which features you use, delivery status of messages, and the cost of the AI and other services each request used.
- Website: textdash.com doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies. When you open a page, our host receives standard technical information such as your IP address and browser.
3. How we use it
- To provide Dash: answer you, track your courses and deadlines, send the reminders and heads-ups you've turned on, read the sites and accounts you've connected, carry out the site tasks you approve, make calls and pages you ask for.
- To keep Dash safe and working: prevent abuse and spam, protect your account and others', respond if you tell Dash you're in crisis (Dash may share crisis lines), and fix problems.
- To improve Dash: we review conversations and run tests on them to make Dash more helpful and accurate. Where we can, we use information that no longer identifies you.
- To communicate with you about Dash, including changes to these documents.
- When you choose optional contact sync, to match your contacts with Dash accounts. We do not use your uploaded contacts for advertising, unsolicited invitations or a contact database for sale or sharing with other companies.
- To meet legal obligations.
No AI training. We don't use your information to train AI models, and the AI providers we use are not allowed to train their models on it. We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
4. Who we share it with
We share personal information only to run the Service, with service providers that process it for us under contract and only for that purpose, and as described below.
Campus tips you share. When you tell Dash something about your campus (for example where something is, how a campus service works, or the address of a school site), Dash remembers it for you. It may also tell other students at your school, without your name or anything that identifies you, but only once the tip has been checked: by our team, by your school's own website, or, for everyday tips like where to find something, by several other students saying the same thing. Dash leaves out anything personal, like names, email addresses and phone numbers. If you erase your account, tips that only you gave are deleted.
| Type of provider | What for | What they get |
|---|---|---|
| Messaging providers | Sending and receiving texts | Your phone number and messages |
| AI model providers | Writing Dash's replies and reading files you send | Messages and the information needed for each reply |
| Hosting and database providers | Running the Service and storing your information | Your account, notes, deadlines, message history and files |
| Secure browsing and sign-in provider (Kernel) | The private browser Dash uses for your school sites, the separate one for public websites, and the secure sign-in page | Your saved sign-in sessions and the passwords you sign in with (stored encrypted; Dash can't read them), the pages Dash reads, and the details of tasks you approve |
| Account connection provider | Connecting your email and calendar | Access to the accounts you connect |
| Web search provider | Searching the web | Search queries (not your name or number) |
| Calling providers | Phone calls Dash makes for you | The number called, what to ask, and what you allowed Dash to share |
| Analytics provider | Understanding how Dash is used | Usage events, without your name, number or message text |
We also share information when you ask us to (for example, what Dash says on a call you asked for), when required by law or to protect someone's safety, and with a buyer or successor if Dash Inc. is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, under this policy.
Google user data. Dash's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Gmail and Google Calendar data only to provide the features you turned on, and we don't use it for advertising or to train AI models.
5. Where it's stored
Dash Inc. is a Delaware corporation. Our database and the service providers above store and process information in the United States and other countries. If you live outside the United States (for example in Canada), your information is transferred to and stored in the United States, where it's subject to US law and authorities there may be able to access it.
6. How long we keep it
- While your account is open, we keep your information so Dash can remember context over the term.
- Closing your account (from your account page) stops Dash, signs it out of every site and account you connected, cancels pending reminders and unlinks your phone number. We keep your past conversations and usage, no longer linked to your number, to improve Dash.
- Erasing everything: email privacy@textdash.ai with your phone number. We'll confirm it's you by text, then delete your information, including from our analytics, except what the law requires us to keep.
- Things you ask Dash to forget are removed from what it remembers about you.
- Synced contacts: matching codes remain until you choose Turn off & remove contacts in the app's invite screen or close your account. Removing them deletes your uploaded matching codes; we keep only a consent revision so an upload already in progress cannot turn sync back on. Removing your phone's contacts permission prevents further reads on that device; use the app's removal control to delete an earlier server upload. Closing your account also removes its invite link and invitation attribution.
7. Your choices and rights
- See and correct what Dash knows on your account page (text "settings"), or by asking Dash.
- Turn things off: reply STOP to stop messages Dash sends on its own, turn off the weekly preview or campus suggestions, disconnect apps and sign out of sites from your account page.
- Contacts and invitations: invite friends without enabling sync, choose which contacts your phone allows Dash to access, refresh synced phone numbers manually, or turn off and remove synced contacts from the app's invite screen. You can keep using Dash without sharing contacts.
- Access, correction, deletion and withdrawing consent. Depending on where you live (for example under Canada's PIPEDA, Quebec's Law 25 or US state privacy laws), you may have rights to access, correct or delete your information, or to withdraw consent. We honour these requests from all users; email privacy@textdash.ai. Withdrawing consent may mean Dash can't keep helping you.
- If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your local privacy authority.
8. Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, encrypted storage of sensitive items (like calendar links, connection tokens and saved passwords, which are write-only: once stored, they can't be read back by Dash or anyone at Dash), signed links that expire, separate private browser profiles for each person, and limited staff access. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach puts you at real risk, we'll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
9. Children
Dash is for people 18 and older and is not intended for children. If we learn we've collected information from a child under 13, we'll delete it. We keep only a one-way code made from the phone number, so the same number isn't signed up again. If you believe a child is using Dash, email privacy@textdash.ai.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. If a change is significant, we'll tell you by text or on our website before it takes effect. The version and date are at the top of this page.
11. Contact
Privacy questions and requests: privacy@textdash.ai. Everything else: support@textdash.ai.
